LED Screen Size Calculation Method

LED Screen Size Calculation Method
LED screens have become an essential part of our daily lives, widely used in shopping malls, advertising billboards, and various public display systems. For users planning to install LED screens, understanding how to calculate screen dimensions is crucial. This document explains LED screen size calculations through three key aspects.
1. Common LED Module Specifications
LED screens are typically composed of multiple LED modules. The module size and specifications determine the overall screen dimensions. Common LED module sizes include:
Standard module: 320mm x 160mm
Small module: 160mm x 160mm
Different brands and models may have slight variations, but these sizes are industry-standard.
2. Indoor LED Screen Size Calculation
Example: Installing a 5m x 3m indoor LED screen
Assuming we are installing an indoor full-color LED screen with a size of 5m (W) × 3m (H), using P2.5 modules. The following steps outline how to calculate the required module count and the actual screen dimensions:
Step 1: Calculate Required Modules
Width Calculation:
Screen width: 5m
P2.5 module width: 0.32m
Number of modules: 5m ÷ 0.32m ≈ 16 modules (rounded up)
Height Calculation:
Screen height: 3m
P2.5 module height: 0.16m
Number of modules: 3m ÷ 0.16m ≈ 19 modules (rounded up)
Step 2: Calculate Actual Screen Size
Width: 16 modules × 0.32m = 5.12m
Height: 19 modules × 0.16m = 3.04m
Final screen dimensions: 5.12m x 3.04m
If the screen is wall-mounted, add the frame thickness (typically 5cm) to the final dimensions.
3. Outdoor LED Strip (Shopfront LED Screen) Size Calculation
Outdoor LED strip screens are widely used for advertising displays and shopfront signage. These typically use P10 single-color LED screens. The following example shows how to calculate the actual dimensions.
Example: Custom P10 Single-Color LED Strip Screen (4.2m x 0.8m)
Module specifications: P10 module 320mm x 160mm
Target screen size: 4.2m x 0.8m
Step 1: Calculate Module Count
Width Calculation:
Screen width: 4.2m
P10 module width: 0.32m
Number of modules: 4.2m ÷ 0.32m ≈ 14 modules
Height Calculation:
Screen height: 0.8m
P10 module height: 0.16m
Number of modules: 0.8m ÷ 0.16m ≈ 5 modules
Step 2: Calculate Actual Screen Size
Width: 14 modules × 0.32m = 4.48m
Height: 5 modules × 0.16m = 0.8m
Final screen dimensions: 4.48m x 0.8m
Step 3: Consider Border Frame Size
Outdoor LED screens often have a frame (commonly 4.5cm thick). If using a 4.5cm border, the actual total size becomes:
Width: 4.48m + (4.5cm × 2) = 4.57m
Height: 0.8m + (4.5cm × 2) = 0.89m
Final total area: 4.57m × 0.89m ≈ 4.06㎡
Conclusion
By understanding the methods above, you can accurately calculate LED screen dimensions for both indoor and outdoor applications. Whether for commercial advertising or shopfront signage, these calculations help in selecting and installing the most suitable LED screens.
